Artificial Boothmate

Working in the interpreting booth demands intense concentration and split-second decision-making. Interpreters must juggle incoming speech, complex terminology, and fast-moving figures—often under immense pressure. The Artificial Boothmate is a cutting-edge solution designed to support interpreters in real time using speech recognition.

This innovative tool listens to the speaker and automatically displays relevant terminology, numbers, and other critical terms on the interpreter’s screen as the speech unfolds. By acting as a digital assistant, the Artificial Boothmate helps interpreters stay focused on delivery while maintaining accuracy and speed.

Developed with Universities of Ghent and Mainz

The Artificial Boothmate project became also a joint research initiative between the University of Ghent and Mainz University (Germersheim), supported by funding from the European Commission. The project integrates advanced natural language processing and leverages the power of InterpretBank to manage and display terminology effectively during live interpreting sessions.

InterpretBank’s existing strengths in terminology management and real-time access to glossaries made it the perfect foundation for this next-generation interpreter support system.
